Baclayon, on the province of Bohol, Philippines, is a charming, historic town, renowned as being the first municipality to be stablish on the island by the spaniards in 1596.
Baclayon lies only six kilometers from Tagbilaran City, the biggest city in Bohol, making it an ideal location to base your holiday on Bohol. The name Baclayon was derived from the word “bacay”, meaning to detour, as early traveler used to detour around the rocky cliff along the shore towards the city to avoid falling from it. “Bacayon” was rhe town’s original name, from which the official name of Baclayon was formed.
The town is abundant with cultural, natural, and adventure-laden treasures to excite everyone who visits. Attractions include the antiquated and regal Baclayon Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Baclayon Museum and the Baluarte.

BACLAYON CHURCH

The edifice is well preserved, and was declared a national historical treasure in the year 1995. What makes the church unique is its antique decors and historical relics displayed in a museum that dates back to the 16th century. It is the oldest church in Bohol and the second oldest in the whole Philippine archipelago.
The church is made of coral stones hauled from the sea which is only a few meters away from it. It was said that 200 slaves were force by the spaniards to build this huge edifice and millions of egg whites were used with lime to cement all the stones together.
The church is located at Poblacion, Baclayon, Bohol which is six kilometers away from Tagbilaran City.

PhotoGrid_1536401630727Next to the church, there is an old convent with a small museum. A visit to the church is not complete without a stopover at the museum: carries a handful of religious artifacts that interestingly showcase the legacy that the spaniard left on our beloved island.

The cool breeze and the sound of the waves is already enough to get you relax while you are here. You can also perform physical activities there like jogging, walking or a zumba dance with your friends or relatives. Aside from this, it’s also a good choice to conduct an event or having a meet-ups.

The Beauty of Baluarte

The name Baclayon was originated from the term “bacayan” from the root word “bacay” which means a detour. Baclayon was the first municipality established in the province.

Baluarte is one of the tourist spot in Baclayon, which is located at Poblacion, Baclayon, Bohol. There are lot of things you can do there, like; swimming, jogging or walking, fishing, picture taking, hangout, eating, and relaxing. The clear water of the place is enough for you to get tempted to swim. It’s also a nice place when you do/perform any physical activities like jogging or walking. Using fish net, it is possible to catch some fishes around the area. Baluarte is a good place to have a picture taking with your friends families or even having  a selfie on your own. It’s also a good choice to conduct an event or having a group meet-ups. There are lots of barbecue stalls near the place, aside from this, you can also bring your own food at the place, but after eating you have to make sure that you have left nothing of your trashes. The cool breeze and sound of the waves is already enough to get you relax while you are in baluarte. If you’re looking for a place to relieve stress from school or work, this is the perfect place to relax.

Habhaban (literally meaning taking a big mouthful of food). Here in habhaban baluarte, they serve chicken barbecues and isaw (chicken intestine). They also serve puso, its compact and handy and the rice has the distinct tight texture since its held together with coconut leaves.
